Who are we?
Vinterior is the place where the world can buy and sell vintage furniture.
In less than three years, the Vinterior Marketplace has grown into a community of over 1,600 independent furniture dealers worldwide. We work only with selected professional sellers to ensure that our customers can find products that match the values that matter to us: character, a passion for craftsmanship and an obsession for delivering exceptional customer service.
As of December 31, 2018, over 100,000 different pieces of furniture, lighting and decorative objects were available on Vinterior. And this number continues to grow. We offer over 25 styles, including Mid-Century, Art Deco, Retro, Modern Scandinavian, Shabby Chic, Bauhaus, Industrial, Boho, Rustic, British, French, Italian and Chinese Antiques.
We provide inspiration and unique content to help individual shoppers to create their dream home with confidence. We also offer dedicated support to allow interior and property trade professionals to source for projects with convenience and speed.
We’re only three years old, but we’re already disrupting the furniture industry and we’re looking to triple in size this year. Since starting, our sales have increased a hundredfold, we have hired more than 25 passionate employees, and there’s still more to come!
The global furniture market is a $700 billion industry, with Europe alone spending over $313 billion in furniture retail last year. With the backing of top tier investors, we are on a mission to put Vinterior pieces in 1 million places within three years and create a world where everyone can work, live and play in a remarkable space.

About the team:
The Product Team; currently a small but hungry team of 9. We’re a well-balanced group of junior and senior engineers. We’re proud of our pair programming culture and enjoy the benefits of this in terms of both personal growth and shipping high quality code.
As a team, we encourage pair programming alongside running weekly sprints with daily stand-ups. We enjoy the process of improving ourselves as a “product” while we improve the actual product.
We’re ship-a-holics too and love to see our work go live. We follow the Boulders and Pebbles methodology. We think it’s a great approach to maintaining momentum and also preventing burnout
We’re customer obsessed. We’re constantly asking ourselves if what we’re working on is solving a genuine problem. To build empathy, the Product team run their own Cinema Club dedicated to watching Hotjar videos (and eating popcorn).
Problems we’re solving…
With big ambitions come big problems. Here are some of the biggest challenges we face…
- Scaling our product pipeline
We list over 500 new products a day and aim to grow our number of listings over 1 million. We will need admin tools that can quickly and accurately list products using the expanse of historical data we’ve collected (machine learning).
- Building a data pipeline
We want to drive the entire business decision making and power machine learning based features across all areas of the business from inventory creation to your own personalised interior design assistant.
- Building a highly connected network of furniture delivery experts
We move delicate, heavy and non-standardized products around the World. Our customers demand timely communication about the process and returns should be equally as painless. How do we make the experience of getting a sofa delivered as seamless as purchasing a book on Amazon Prime?
- Help our sellers to grow
Our sellers range from single person businesses to bigger and better resourced organisations. Our aim is to get products in front of the right audience at the right time whilst maximising the business opportunity. Would a dynamic bidding platform solve this problem?
- Digitalizing the furniture buying experience
We want to recreate the real-life experience of buying furniture. We want to do this by giving consumers the opportunity to “touch” the products they’re interested in, visualise the item in their own homes (augmented reality) and to ask questions and interact with the sellers (chatbots).
What does our Stack look like?
Our current setup is a Rails application hosted on Heroku. We’ve rolled our own e-commerce system and our seller tools are within that same system too. Our frontend uses React to power aspects of the customer experience. For that we use modern JS tooling such as: Webpack and Yarn.
Our ideal candidate
You should have a minimum of 4 years experience building production ready applications. This means you can write readable, maintainable, extendible and well-tested code. Ideally, you’re used to working in an agile environment; you can estimate work and help others to do the same.
You should be a World class communicator. You can clearly explain your decision making to a technical and non-technical audience. Our junior engineers are eager to learn and appreciate clear, concise mentoring on how to approach a problem too.
When it comes to shipping, our approach is: release early, release often. We’re a speedboat, not an oil tanker. We value breaking down work into small tasks that are simple to test and take less than a couple of days to complete. This allows us to analyse user data and adjust our course accordingly.
We would consider it a bonus if you have worked in a startup before. At this early stage, we all wear multiple hats and would expect you to do the same.
In addition, if you have experience internationalising a product, scaling in eCommerce businesses, have an eye for design and frontend execution or if you have experience scaling systems, these would also be valuable to us.

We want to get the best out of you throughout our interview process, so we try to make it an interesting and engaging exercise, rather than an intimidating one. We think interviewing is a two-way street, so although we’ll be hearing from you, it’s also an opportunity for you to get to know our team and understand the ways in which we work.
We’re lucky enough to be based in the heart of London in a vintage-inspired office above the All Saints shop near Spitalfields Market, Shoreditch. We provide unlimited tea, coffee and fresh fruits to all of our team, but we also have some amazing places to eat/drink close by! We also offer one day remote working per week and we have a casual dress code.

Shoreditch High Street - 5-minute walk (Overground)
Liverpool Street - 5-minute walk (Overground, Central, Circle, Hammersmith & City and Metropolitan)
